Edite "Edith" Radovskis Obituary

It is with sadness that the family of Edite (Edith) Radovskis announce her passing on December 6, 2023 at the Flin Flon General Hospital.

Edite was born in Bauska, Latvia on April 23, 1935 to parents Gothards and Hermine Ruza.  She was the second youngest of five children.  She immigrated to Canada with her family in 1950, arriving in Halifax and eventually settling in Winnipeg.  She married Charles (Ojars) Radovskis in 1956. Their son Edvins was born in 1957 and then daughter Zinta in 1963.  Ojars and Edite both worked hard to keep the Latvian culture alive in Winnipeg.  Edite was active in the Winnipeg Latvian Society, the Holy Cross Latvian Lutheran Church as well as the Latvian Folklorama pavilion.  Special lifelong acquaintances were made through these groups.  Family and friends were important to Edite.  Hosting or attending a gathering was something she looked forward to.  Edite loved to garden, bake and cook.  You never left her house hungry!  She left Winnipeg in 2015 and headed north to live in Flin Flon, to be closer to family.  She made the Legion Jubilee Residence her home and here she made many new friends.  She enjoyed spending time at the cabin at Bakers Narrows, always on the lookout for the loons.  “Meme” adored her grandsons and was thrilled to meet her great grandson Theo. Edite was a kind, gentle lady that always put others before herself.

Edite was predeceased by her parents, son Edvins, husband Ojars, her sisters Dzidra and Ritma, brother Olgerts and niece Gundega.  She will be fondly remembered by her daughter Zinta (Paul) Akkerman, her grandsons Nikolas (Laura) Akkerman and Evan (Kaitlyn) Akkerman, her great-grandson Theo Akkerman, her sister Aina, her many nieces and nephews, her cousins in Latvia and friends whom she considered family.

The family of Edite wishes to acknowledge all the staff at the Flin Flon General Hospital who provided the utmost of care to Edite during her brief stay.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
