EDITH ADELINE CHLAN

September 7, 1926 - March 22, 2026

Edith Adeline Chlan passed away peacefully at the Personal Care Home in Flin Flon, surrounded by the love of her family. 

Edith was born in Birch River, Manitoba, and raised on a farm in the district. Her father, Robert Almas, came from a family of United Empire Loyalists who originated in Eastern Canada, and her mother, Adeline Almas (née Fraser), was of Scottish descent. She grew up alongside her six siblings in a life rooted in hard work, resilience, and family. 

As a young woman, Edith moved to Flin Flon, where she lived with her grandmother Fraser and worked at the post office. It was there that she met Mike through her uncles, Bill and Rick Fraser - a meeting that would shape the rest of her life. 

Edith and Mike were married on December 1, 1945, and built their home together in Flin Flon. In the early years, they took in boarders, and later built a small apartment building that Edith managed while raising their five children. She ran her home with quiet strength, kindness, and a no-nonsense approach, always guided by common sense and care for others. 

Early in their marriage, Edith and Mike purchased land at Denare Beach, Saskatchewan, where they built a summer home that became a cherished part of family life. With no road access at the time, they walked in from Mosher Lake, cleared the land themselves, and created what became known as their limestone retreat. The entire family shared in the work, forming lifelong memories and strong bonds, along with many lasting friendships - especially with the Larson family. Edith and Mike's love of gardening was evident in the beautiful limestone terraces they built together. 

Edith was a proud and dedicated member of Rebekah Lodge for 73 years. She was also an active member of the Northminster United Church, where she sang in the choir for most of her life. Music was a constant in her world - she could often be heard singing throughout her home from morning until night.

She found joy in the simple pleasures of life - curling, quiet afternoons, and especially time spent playing canasta with her cherished group of friends, fondly known as the "Canasta Ladies". 

Edith was a devoted mother to her five children: Bob, Myrna, Wray, Rick (Nancy) and Kathryn. She will be deeply missed by her family who loved and respected her dearly. 

She was a proud grandmother to Kyla (Mike), Isaac (Lindsey), Jamie (Dan), Warren, Carter (Danni), Ashley (Jake) and Kristy (Albert).

And a great grandmother to Channing, Anneliese, Adalyn, Ethan (Raeanne), Aiden (Yolanda), Dan, Ellie, Westley and Violet. 

She will also be lovingly remembered by her sister Betty (Barry), her sister-in-law Lavona (Walter), her daughters-in-law Reta and D'Atra, her son-in-law Brian, and her many nieces, nephews, and friends. Edith was predeceased by her beloved husband Mike, her son Bob, and her son-in-law Craig. 

Her family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Personal Care Home in Flin Flon for their compassion and care, and gratefully acknowledges the many community organizations that supports seniors. 

Interment will take place in the afternoon at Denare Beach Cemetery, followed by a family supper at the Chlan family cabin. 

A funeral service for Edith will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026 beginning at 11:00AM at the Northminster Memorial United Church, 250 Bracken Street, Flin Flon, Manitoba.
