Gerald Lynn Obituary

GERALD MARVIN LYNN

October 17th, 1941 - November 16th, 2025

On Sunday evening, Gerald Marvin Lynn left his weakened body behind and peacefully exchanged it for his new heavenly one.

Dad was born in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan on October 17th, 1941 to Edward Benjamin Lynn and Elizabeth Grace Cooper.  Dad was the fourth of seven children, neatly bookended by brothers Gale, Meryl and sister Darlene before him and brothers Russ, Glenn and Bernie after.

Growing up in Flin Flon, Manitoba our father had the heart of an adventurer.  He loved exploring, taking photographs and loved, loved, loved Canadian History.  He taught us that beauty is often hidden and close to the ground.  Look down or you might miss it!  He also loved anything that flies, be it bird or plane.  Look up or you might miss it!  With both earth and sky as subjects Dad took many photographs with an increasingly sophisticated range of camera equipment.

It was while attending the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary in 1967, that a friend invited Dad to a church College and Career group and it was there that he heard God call him into relationship with Himself.  Dad also found something else at church - a wife!  Dad says that he was smitten the moment he saw our mother, Jean because she was the most alive person he had ever met.  Dad proposed to her on the way home from their first date and they married on July 18th, 1967, just six months after laying eyes on each other.  They had two children, Nyla-Jean (1968) and Andrew (1971).  In all, Mom and Dad spent over 55 years together, filling their life with church activities, family get-togethers, camping, canoeing, sailing, swimming, backpacking, tobogganing, skating and cross-country skiing along with lots of picnics and romps over the hills at the lake with our dog, Chin, leading the way.

Dad accepted a job at the Saskatchewan Technical Institute in Moose Jaw in the winter of 1968 at the initial salary of $553.00 a month.  He taught in the Electrical Construction Department for 26 years before taking early retirement to do short-term mission trips in Irian-Jaya, Niger and Ghana.  His other passion?  He loved spending time with his grandchildren and his great-grandson!

Gerry was the loving and faithful husband of Jeannie, and a most beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to Nyla-Jean and John David de Boer (Julia and Sankalp [Theophil and Bump], Daisy and Starling, Jo and Rhett, Gerrit, and Lucinda) and to Andrew and Rebecca Lynn (Joanna and Leon, Makayla and Anthony, Étienne, and Léa).  Also left to mourn is his one remaining brother, Bernie (Debbie) and numerous nieces and nephews.

We as a family would like to thank the staff at Chateau St. Michael’s for their exceptional care of Dad, and of us, in the last almost three years.  You have become family and we love you.

A Celebration of Gerry’s Life will be held on Saturday, December 6th, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. in the Harvey Room at Moose Jaw Funeral Home.  Those not able to attend may view the service by going to http://www.moosejawfuneralhome.com/webcast/.  As an expression of sympathy, donations in Gerry’s name may be made to Operation Smile Canada, 375 University Avenue, Suite 204 Toronto, Ontario, M5G 2J5.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Gary McDowell, Funeral Director 306-693-4550 www.moosejawfuneralhome.com
