Glenn grew up in Minnesota, and graduated from Bemidji State University in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science Teaching Degree in Industrial Arts. His professor told him about a job posting for an Industrial Arts teacher in Northern Manitoba. Glenn had been to Canada on one occasion moose hunting so he thought it might be an adventure to go North for a couple years. So he answered the ad, was offered the job, and packed his bags for Flin Flon, Manitoba. Once there he met the new kindergarten teacher, Gwen. They fell in love, married in 1977, raised 3 children: Loree, Brad, and Mark. The 2 year adventure turned into 50 years.
Glenn was an Industrial Arts teacher for the Flin Flon School Division for 30 years; teaching grades 7 through 12. He taught small engine repair, drafting, electronics, carpentry, welding, and graphic arts. He also ran a few adult woodworking courses in the evening, and taught a youth 4H woodworking class. Glenn also volunteered for the Scouting program; helping the Cubs build Cub Cars for their annual race and also helped the Scouts build canoe paddles. He was always open to helping others out; and he fixed and built a lot of different things over the years.
When Glenn retired as a school teacher he worked half time in the CV program with students interested in going into the trades. He also worked part-time as a caretaker at the Community Hall for the City of Flin Flon. He did this job until he was 72. Glenn had a good friend that ran a tree cutting business, and he enjoyed working with him as well. Glenn thought that splitting a cord of wood was good exercise and he actually enjoyed it!
Glenn enjoyed curling, bowling, fishing, hunting, hiking, and picking blueberries. He was the son of a forest ranger and loved being out in the woods. Glenn was also on the Ducks Unlimited Committee for many years, he served on the Senior Board and also on the Museum board.
Glenn had the summers off work when he was a school teacher, which made it so he was able to go on many camping trips with his family. They travelled to Alaska, South Dakota, The Maritimes, Newfoundland, and around Lake Superior. They also went on numerous trips to the U.S. to visit family and friends. Upon retirement Glenn was able to go on many “hot holiday” destinations including: Hawaii, Panama, Costa Rica, Belize, Roatan, Mexico, Cuba, and many Caribbean islands.
Glenn will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 48 years; Gwen, his sons; Brad (Crystal), Mark (Ashley), his grandchildren Violet and Arlo, his brother Brian (Barb), his sisters; Elaine and Suzanne “Dee Dee“, his little doggie Myles, and a lot of family and friends from near and far. We will cherish our memories!=
