HERVEY JAMES GALBRAITH MARCH 24, 1940 – JANUARY 17, 2026
Hervey passed away peacefully on Saturday January 17, 2026 in the Flin Flon general hospital surrounded by his family.
Hervey was born in Bellsite MB to Jim and Muriel Galbraith on March 24, 1940. He was the third child of six. Gordon, Shirley, Hervey, Beverly, Lois and Gerald.
Hervey attended the local one room school house with his siblings up to grade 6. He left school to help out on the family farm while his father recovered from a broken back. He eventually was able to leave the farm and move out on his own. He spent a short time in BC and SK before making his way to Flin Flon in 1960.
His first job in the north was with the National Fruit Co. from there he hired on with Patrick Construction, installing water and sewer lines in Creighton SK. Hervey started his career with HBM&S on October 3, 1965 and retired December 31, 1996.
Hervey met his bride to be, Ethel Florence Eidt in November 1961. They married on September 15, 1962 and we’re blessed with 5 daughters.
Hervey loved the north and all it had to offer. He loved fishing, hunting, sledding and quading. He remained active after retirement and volunteer with the Border Explorers (groomer), Friendship Center, and Dog Sled Races.
Hervey is predeceased by his parents Jim and Muriel, sister Shirley (in infancy), brother Gerald and sister in law Brenda, brother in law Murray Eidt, sister in law Norma Kennedy and sister in law Lucy Newsteder.
Hervey is survived by his wife Ethel of 63 years, daughters Kathy (Kelly) Beech, Barb (Dennis) Kornik, Cheryl (Larry) Ruckle, Robin (Kelly) Rylance, Jody (Jay) Schamehorn. Grandchildren Rodney, Bryer (Jared) Unruh, Luke, Serena (Sunny), Jack. Siblings Gordon, Beverly (Frank) Beadle, Lois (Edwin) Sims, brother in law Doug (Kathy) Eidt, James (Jamie) Eidt and numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to Hervey’s niece Nicole and great niece Logan for all the love and support given to him over the years and while in hospital. You held a special place in his heart.
A private family service will be held.
