Maurice Richard Dansereau (Rick), born in Flin Flon Manitoba, April 12, 1952, the fourth child of Jean and Yvette Dansereau, passed away just after midnight on May 7th, 2025. He is survived by his older brother Ed, younger sister Jeanette, children: René, Paul, and Michelle, and grandchildren: Eden, Emais and Magne.
He grew up in Flin Flon and was actively involved in Cubs and Boy Scouts. Much to his father’s chagrin, while he did play hockey, his career was significantly shorter than his namesakes illustrious career. He served as an alter boy at St. Annes parish followed by a brief foré as an army cadet. He was often seen on the badminton and tennis courts.
Richard was always more of a serious and studious person in his youth and initially not what you’d call a “social” person. Always being a stickler for the rules generally made him “leader” in neighbourhood outdoor games and he was mom’s little “Chardie”
After 4 months of courtship beginning at the badminton club, he married Zdenka Hajzler on Sept 2,1972. Their common love of racket sports brought them together. After a colourful introduction to her to be in-laws, they sealed the deal and set out to start a family.
He gained certifications in Instrumentation and Power Engineering, became employed at HBM&S for over 43 years, and started underground, working his way through the ranks to become the Lead the Instrumentation Shop. He was instrumental in major projects including the modernization of the zinc plant, and converting an old powder magazine (underground mine) into a greenhouse.
As an active community contributor, he dedicated his time and efforts in turn as the President of the local CO-OP, North 54 Cottager’s Association, and Phantom Lake Golf Club. Always pushing boundaries, he convinced the Cottager’s Association Fire Committee to implement a cutting edge forest fire detection and warning system to keep everyone safe.
A prolific explorer, his love of adventure, family and friends led him to traversed Europe and the Americas. As a true romantic, he followed his heart to visit the UAE and China.
He made it a priority to golf at St.Andrews (among other destinations), while his love of sailing took him on adventures to the Mediterranean, U.S. Virgin Islands, local Regattas, and cheat death on Lake Winnipeg.
Above all Richard was generous, kind, funny, loveable, loved and an amazingly beautiful person who will be missed beyond measure. May he rest in eternal peace. Sov godt i evighed.
A private family service for Rick will be held at a later date.
