On November 17, 2025, Norma Jean Barr of Creighton, SK passed away peacefully at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, SK.
Norma was born on November 21, 1931 in Yorkton, SK and moved to Flin Flon, MB in 1936 with her parents Ezra (Eddie) and Christina Saddlemyer. Norma was predeceased by her parents, sister Lula Floch / Charest, brother John, son-in-law Randy Schaworski and her husband of 71 years, Robert (Bob) Barr.
Norma and Bob were married in 1953 and together they raised five children: Gaye Willetts (husband Gary) of Flin Flon, MB; Ron Barr of Denare Beach, SK; Verne Barr (wife Diana) of Calgary, AB, Susan Schaworski of Saskatoon, SK; and Gordon Barr (wife Arlene) of Calgary, AB. In addition to her five children, Norma had eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren that were a big part of her life and she loved them dearly.
Norma lived in northern Manitoba and Saskatchewan for for almost 90 years, including: Flin Flon, Snow Lake, Denare Beach, and Creighton. She was an active member of the community and a friend to many. Over the years she volunteered for many organizations, including Chair of the Northern Gateway Museum at Denare Beach for 29 years, an active member of the United Church, and many years involved with the Hospital Auxiliary, Meal on Wheels, Reach to Recovery International for breast cancer patients, and figure skating judge to name a few.
Norma enjoyed participating in several sports over the years such as curling, golf, cross-county skiing and fishing. She enjoyed watching curling, hockey, golf and many other sports on TV. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading and playing cards, especially bridge with family and friends.
Norma was particularly proud of the revitalization of Northern Gateway Museum where she served for 29 years on the Board and led the fundraising for a new building. During this time she developed strong relationships with First Nations communities in the area, gaining their trust so that they would place items of historical significance in the care of the museum. Another item of great importance to Norma was helping community members who were diagnosed with breast cancer work through treatment and recovery.
Norma was an amazing person, full of life and and an active member in any community she lived in. Over the years she developed many friendships that she treasured. She will be missed by all that knew her and will be forever in our hearts and memories.
If family and friends so desire, in lieu of sending flowers, Norma requested that a donation be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 55 St. Clair Avenue W., Suite 500, Toronto, Ontario, M4V 2Y7 or on their website at www.cancer.ca.
A service will be held at Northminster Memorial United Church in Flin Flon in the summer of 2026, date to be determined.
