Orla Czettisch passed away at Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock, BC on April 9th, 2026 with family by her side. She was predeceased by her husband Joe in 2022. Orla was born in Flin Flon, Manitoba to Ella and Harvey Scott. She attended Teacher’s College in Winnipeg, and after brief stints teaching in Port Arthur Ontario and Churchill Manitoba spent most of her adult life Flin Flon. She taught at SMR, Birchview and Ruth Betts schools, primarily at the grade 4 level. She enjoyed teaching and being a part of the education system in Flin Flon over her 30 plus year career. In 2018 she and Joe moved to BC to be closer to family especially their 4 grandchildren.
On July 3rd 1965 Orla and Joe were married in St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Flin Flon. Together they raised 2 sons, Brent and Jason. Upon retirement in 1994 Joe and Orla lived full time at “The Lake” in their home at Bakers Narrows. There, she was involved with and organized many social events, lunches and pot luck meals. These were good times surrounded by friends and family. Orla loved arts and crafts. She was always working on something, but her favourite activity was painting with water colours. She volunteered with several local organizations including The Flin Flon Arts Council, the local Red Cross and the Flin Flon Heritage project. Orla was also an active member of St. Anne’s Parish. Joe and Orla spent their retirement winters, often with life long friends, in Arizona, Texas and BC. Many good stories of those adventures have been told!
Orla is survived by sons Brent (Gail) and Jason (Sharon) with grandchildren Sam, Sophie, Ella and Riley; brother John Scott (Nadine), sister-in-law Louise Huston, nephews David, Alex, Ian, Andrew and niece Amy, She is now at peace reunited with her parents and husband of 56 years Joe. A remembrance celebration and inurnment for Orla and Joe will be held in Flin Flon at a later date. Donations in Orla’s memory may be made to The Northern Health Foundation (Flin Flon specifically) or the charity of your choice.
