(Memories of Tim from his oldest brother Dennis)
Tim was the youngest of five children. He should’ve ended up very spoiled, but he didn’t. Tim, I’m proud to say, was my little brother but I very often had to stop and question who was the big brother. It seemed like he could do practically everything and if he didn’t know how, he’d learn it slowly & patiently until he had it right. Things like electrical, plumbing, mechanical, cooking, baking and especially carpentry. Tim was a thoughtful, kind, loving sweet little guy with a mischievous streak and a sparkle in his eye. He learned about the wooden spoon early. He loved well and I’ve never known anyone so willing to help anyone anytime. He would take me fishing. He’d carry the heavy stuff, set up the boat, drive the boat, net the fish and do the filleting. I respected his judgement on anything and he never lied. He was a wonderful brother, son, husband and father, unwaveringly honest and responsible and a man of honour. I am proud to say he was my brother.
(Memories of Tim from his wife Shelly)
In 1974, a nervous Tim asked me (Shelly Berkner) to the Creighton School junior high dance. We were together ever since. We were married in 1980 and were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Holly in 1983 and Breanne in 1986. Tim was the best husband and father you could ever ask for. He was a very patient guy who was always there to help anyone who needed it.
Tim’s first job was at KFC in Flin Flon. He applied at HBM&S in 1978, did not weigh quite enough, but was told to step back on the scale while wearing his heavy winter boots and parka, and luckily passed the required mark. He achieved his first level electrical apprenticeship in Snow Lake before returning to Flin Flon to work in the mill and eventually the assay lab, where he remained as Laboratory Supervisor until his retirement.
Tim enjoyed many outdoor activities throughout his life. As a youngster he played hockey, baseball, volleyball and golf. Later, curling and fishing became his favourites. He fished at numerous lakes in the area over the years, with most of the family outings taking place at Ruth Lake. Tim enjoyed watching the Toronto Blue Jays games and was a loyal Flin Flon Bomber fan.
Tim was diagnosed with glioblastoma in November 2021. He fought hard throughout the past two years while completing various treatments and surgeries. He was able to remain at home until his final three weeks.
Tim is lovingly remembered by his wife Shelly, daughter Holly (Stephen Simpson), grandsons Brenner and Emmett (Edmonton, AB) and daughter Breanne (Jordan Tost) and grandson Noah (Creighton, SK)
He is survived by his four siblings: Marilynn Fisher (Kitchener, ON), Dennis Ballard (Flin Flon, MB), Cavin Ballard (Flin Flon, MB) and Carol Zarazun (Martensville, SK); as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was predeceased by his parents Ina and Leon Ballard.
We miss you Tim and will love you always and forever.
